CENTURY CINEMA STARS TAKE SILVER AT SIOUX LOOKOUT NOVICE TOURNAMENT
Date: January 9, 2009 Author: Carla Cranston
Our novice team travelled to Sioux Lookout to participate in the Sioux Lookout Novice hockey tournament January 9, 10 & 11.
The Century Cinema Stars took second place. Nine teams took part in the tournament: three from Kenora, two from Dryden, two from Sioux Lookout, Ignace and Red Lake.
Scores from Kenora Century Cinema Stars (CCStars) round robin games where as follows:
In the semi final the CCStars played the Sioux Lookout Senators. The CCStars where ahead 5-4 and the Senators managed to tie the game with 5 seconds remaining in the game to force sudden death overtime. After a scoreless OT the game went to a sudden death shootout where it took five shooters to settle the game, with the CCStars coming out on top.
In the final the CCStars met up with the Sioux Lookout Ojibway Park Rangers once again. The Rangers prevailed by a score of 11-2.
The boys exhibited fine sportsmanship getting only two penalties in six games. They played with a great deal of “hockey heart”. The boys made their coaches (Dean Caron, Brian Nieminen and Richard Findlay) and their families very proud. They were great ambassadors for not only the Lake of the Woods Minor Hockey Association but also the City of Kenora.
Take care
Dean Caron
