Bantam Avalanche claims gold in Fort Frances!

The Avalanche and White Lightening attended the Fort Frances Bantam/Midget Tournament this past weekend.
The Avalanche doned a perfect 6 and O record this weekend , winning all six games. Play began on Friday with the Avalanche beating the Thunder Bay Magic 9-0. They then beat the Fort Frances Wild 5-0. Play continued early Saturday morning with their 3rd win over the Dryden Petro Pass 2-0. The Avalanche secured 1st place in the round robin. Later that day, they played the Thunder Bay Herricanes and beat them 6-0, advancing them to the semi-finals Sunday morning. In the semi's they met up with the Fort Frances DBO Stars. The Avalanche won 6-1, giving up their only goal of the weekend and advancing them to the Gold medal game , meeting up again against the Dryden Petro Pass. The Avalanche came out victorious 5-0. Scoring started off with markers from Stephanie Sparkman, followed by Hannah Rose, Ainsley Lindquist and 2 goals from Emma Neniska. Andrea Johnson played fantastic in net, recording 5 shut outs. The whole team contributed all weekend both offensively and defensively. Other scorers for the weekend included Kaitlin Sparkman, Taylor Carlson, Carrie Nagy. Assists were also chalked up for Halle Stasiuk, Bianca Packo. Kylie Lindquist and Haelee Morgan.
The White Lightening finished 3rd in their pool and unfortunately came up short in the quarter final against the Dryden Petro Pass. The score was tied 1-1 with the lone goal coming from Haley Moncrief, putting the game into an exciting 5 minute overtime, and then into a sudden death shoot out. Becca Mahon was excellent between the pipes but Dryden came out on top to advance them to the semi-finals. Congratulations to both teams for their efforts and for some excellent hockey this weekend!
